Merry Christmas! I pray you to find joy, peace, and love (including self-love) this holiday season. Christmas time is for reflecting on your faith, your goals, and your love for others and yourself.

Jesus sent his one and only son because of his love for you and me. Self-love can look like self-care. It is so important, and in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, we often need to remember to take care of ourselves. How are you doing some self-care during this time of year?

If you are like me, I am a nurturer on steroids. This time of year, I love giving gifts and caring for others. As I say, I am a wife and mom by nature. People refer to me as their Business Mom or big sister. I love having coffee, supporting others, and helping them live on purpose. In saying that, I need to be sure I, too, am living my life on purpose, including taking loving and caring of myself.

Maybe we were taught that self-care is selfish but is it selfish? Or is it necessary so we can help others and be the best version of ourselves? In living our life, as they always say on the plan. “We need to put on our air masks first” to help others put their air masks on.
We need to live by the example of whom we want others to be. In doing this, we can show up to be better Wives, moms, grandmas, friends, or businesswomen as we become the best version of ourselves.

This is a great time to stop, reflect and ask ourselves some questions:

  1. Are you the best version of yourself?
  2. What do you need today to be the best version of yourself?
  3. What are you doing for self-care?
  4. What is one thing you can do for yourself to show self-love?
  5. How will this help you improve in all areas of your life?

Let’s rethink how you look at self-love and self-care. Understand it is ok and necessary to take care of yourself in all areas of your life.

  1. Spirituality
  2. Health
  3. Relationships
  4. Financially
  5. Business
  6. Personal growth

Realize that there is a difference between being selfish and self-care. Self-care is about filling yourself up so you can be the best spouse, parent, friend, employee, boss, and person. Selfishness, on the other hand, reflects the “me-first” attitude—determining how much you can get for yourself (often at the expense of others).

Some ways to understand the difference are:

Selfishness prevents you from giving of yourself: self-care enables you to give to others.
Self-care builds Confidence. Once you get the hang of showing yourself self-love, you’ll notice an increase in security that comes with knowing you can provide for yourself. In contrast, selfishness is rooted in an unspoken insecurity that wrongly convinces you you’ll never have enough. With self-care, you know you are enough as long as you prioritize yourself.
Self-care helps bring out the best in you.
Selfishness excludes others, whereas self-care does not.

As we strive to become better than we are, everything about us becomes better too.

As we head into the new year and you work on setting goals, prioritize yourself this next year. Here is to an amazingly successful 2023 in your life and business.
